Yup – It’s true. My family in the training village goes to Catholic Church, so I do too. We go twice every Sunday – once at 7:15 am and once at 3:30 pm. The second one is a little shorter (only 45 min or so).
It is convenient though, because

Halloween
For Halloween we got to come in from the village to stay a few nights in the capital. There was a “big” party for all Peace Corps, The Japanese version of Peace Corps and the Australian version of Peace Corps as well. The four girls in our group decided our whole group should go as a football team because we each found jerseys form our home states. We convinced most of the boys to dress up with us and we got Joey, who is a professor of sports and fitness, to be our coach! I loved it!

October 15, 2008 The Beach!
This Sunday was White Sunday, a Holiday in all of Samoa that celebrates children. I went to a Church called Peace Chapel and watched 100 kids sing songs and do a skit and dances. They were really cute and it was a lot of fun. I have never laughed so much in a church!
The Mondays after holidays here are also holidays. So, instead of class on Monday, we did some “cultural exploration” at the beach. It was the most beautiful beach I have ever seen – turquoise water, palm trees everywhere and a coral reef too! The sand was full of coral and rocks so it was hard to walk in the water. |
