When the plane landed in Apia, the sun had not risen yet. Our group was greeted at the airport by two current volunteers with handmade leis for all of us. It was amazing! Right after we got our bags we took this picture: (click on "read more" to see it) |

October 11, 2008 I arrived at the hotel in LA with my parents who helped me carry my bags inside. Just inside I saw a group of people I thought could potentially be other Peace Corps Volunteers. Not that I wanted to make assumptions about what a PC Volunteer looks like, but they had backpacks, smiles and were talking to each other...and they had big folders hat said “Peace Corps” on them. I got pretty nervous about meeting new people and shooed my parents away more quickly than I would have liked to, even though my mom suggested she come in because there would probably be many parents there. Turns out there were no other parents there, Mom.

If anyone is interested in sending me anything in the mail, here are my details: Blakey Larsen, PCV Peace Corps Private Mail Bag Apia, (Western) Samoa Apparently there is often confusion over the name of the country Samoa and the country American Samoa. Samoa used to be called Western Samoa but changed its name in 1997. My point is that it is helpful to specify NOT-American Samoa when you mail something. And there are no zip/postal codes in Samoa. |
