Hi there! It's Blakey here, reporting from the Island Nation of Samoa in the heart of the South Pacific. I am currently serving as an Information and Communications Technology volunteer in the Peace Corps. I flew here on October 7th 2008 and plan to be here through December 2010.

Growing up in St. Paul, Mnnesota was great! Especially because now I can use the accent I had to do great Sarah Palin impressions. When it was time for college I was very excited to have the opportunity to go to McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. After four years of studying Linguistics and Computer Science, I graduated in May and was ready for my next adventure. My thesis was focused on Syntax of Austronesian Languages (the family of languages from the Pacific Islands), so I really wanted to serve on an Austronesian island. I was lucky enough to be placed in Samoa and I couldn't be happier!

Hey Blakey! Just when I was about to delete my Google Alert for Samoa, it led me to your blog...well first to Matt's blog, which then had a link to yours. Anyways, you haven't blogged since March. Boo! But I guess that's because you've been so busy and integrated into the samoan community, so I'm happy for you...it's amazing how things change over time. It was great meeting you and hope we keep in the touch in the future.

i'm a SCOPA kid 82 living in alaska. my wife val and i have been reading your blog and she loves it. it explains why i do certain things. it explains to me too why i do certain things like, no ketup on my food, don't spoil the taste with all those spices. plus, i like that explanation for Kua.

so Avele got girls. they only had boys then. they were infamous for the Spartan style in their hostel life and their athletic cheer was, "toto" (blood)
