Here's a little insight into my showering habbits:
This was my shower in the training village:
It was in a little building outside with a pipe at knee-level to fill the bucket. I would use a bowl to get water from the bucket and dump it on myself. This method is referred to as a “bucket shower.” I was originally skeptical of the cleaning power of the bucket shower, but after a few tries I found the best method and am now a believer. You have to focus on each part of the body individually – I always spend the most time on my feet, which are consistently dirty from wearing flip flops in the sand, dirt, and water. I have successfully avoided and fungal infections on my feet, so I am proud of that! Hopefully I can maintain that for 2 years! This is my shower at my house:
The water pressure varies from medium to weak, if there is any water at all. The shower is inside my house, so I don’t have to go outside to get there. It takes a while to get the shampoo and conditioner out of my hair – it is actually easier to wash my hair with a bucket shower. Although I am happy to have my own shower here, I actually prefer the bucket shower and find myself missing it. This is not a preference I would have expected before moving here. I think my preference in shower style is one example of how my mindset is shifting from North American to Samoan. |
